Eden Valley Museum Appeal 2021
Help Save Algie!
Algie is a Tru-to-Life Chimp who has been residing in the museum archive store since he was gifted to the museum in 2002.
Many locals will be familiar with Algie as for many years he resided at the top of a palm tree in Macks’ Greengrocers in the High Street. He was so popular that after new owners took him down, he was missed so much by local children that he was reinstated and remained in place until the shop closed for good
Algie, and other Tru-to-Life chimps, were designed by Sylvia Willgoss after studying a young chimpanzee at London Zoo. He was manufactured by the Deans Rag Book Company. His fur is acrylic and his face, hands and feet are moulded rubber. We’d like to put him on display, but this would just hasten his deterioration
We are seeking to raise £1000 towards the cost of specialist conservation work which will stabilise Algie and allow him to join the other toys on display rather than continue life in an archive box.
