Collection Highlights
The Bolebroke Cup dates from 1901 and was presented to the Edenbridge Fat Stock and Root Show by P.J. Mann. For many years it was awarded to tenant farmers gaining the most points in the Root, Corn and Hay classes.
Markets have been a feature in Edenbridge for over 750 years. The Fat Stock and Root Show was a pre-Christmas annual event from 1869 until the late 1950’s and was one of the forerunners to the ongoing Edenbridge and Oxted Agricultural Show.
The cup came to our attention when it was lent to the museum by Lennox Cato DL for our ‘Object of the Month’ in November 2019. Lennox subsequently offered the cup to the museum at a reduced price along with a personal donation towards the purchase cost. The Warren Meadows Trust also made a generous donation along with museum members.
